Application Keynote Lecture
Prof. Dr. Oliver Zielinski (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence)
AI as a Game Changer for Sustainable Marine Environments
Prof. Dr Oliver Zielinski is head of the Competence Center AI for Environment and Sustainability, DFKI4planet for short, at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). He is also head of the research department Marine Perception at the DFKI-Laboratory Lower Saxony, where he is scientific director, too. In addition, he heads the Center for Marine Sensors (ZfMarS) at the Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) at the University of Oldenburg. In 1999, he completed his PhD in physics at the University of Oldenburg. He then moved to industry, where he became scientific director and CEO of an international supplier of marine sensor systems. In 2005, he was appointed professor at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. In 2007, he became director of the Institute for Marine Resources (IMARE). In 2011, he returned to the University of Oldenburg and joined DFKI in 2019. His area of research covers environmental physics, with a special focus on intelligent sensor systems and perception in marine operational observatories.
