Dr James Haworth, University College London (UCL)Dr James Haworth is Associate Professor in Spatio-temporal Analytics at SpaceTimeLab in CEGE at UCL. His research interests lie in spatio-temporal modelling and analytics, in particular applications of machine learning, deep learning and computer vision to the geoinformation sciences. He has carried out most of his work in the fields of transport and mobility, with applications in travel time forecasting, travel mode and activity detection, and bicycle flow modelling. His current work focuses on using computer vision to sense features, actions and interactions in the urban environment for applications including road safety and context detection. James has worked on a number of projects funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), EPSRC and the Road Safety Trust, amongst others. His work on these projects developed sensors to record the experiences of cyclists on urban roads, helping to uncover the infrastructural and behavioural factors that contribute to crash risk. These projects developed a suite of geospatial and computer vision tools that can be used to automatically assess rider safety. He is currently working with Ordnance Survey, the UK's national mapping agency, using large language models to develop conversational systems for complex routing problems in open spaces.
