Each year ECCAI, the European Co-ordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence, invites nominations for its Fellows Programme 'to recognize individuals who have made significant, sustained contributions to the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in Europe'. Fellows' accomplishments range from pioneering advances in the theory of AI to unusual accomplishments in AI technology and applications. Usually only individuals who have made contributions to AI for a decade or more after receiving their Ph.D. (or are at an equivalent career stage) will be selected. Leadership in ECCAI or ECCAI member societies, support of forums for the exchange of ideas, and extended service for the international AI community also play a role in the selection process. Further information is available on the ECCAI website at http://www.eccai.org/fellows.html.
ECCAI member societies such as SGAI are asked to put forward nominations each year for consideration by the ECCAI Fellows Selection Committee. The SGAI committee has agreed the following policy for doing this.
(1) Each year a Call for Nominations will be circulated to members of SGAI with a specified deadline. A nomination form will be placed on the SGAI website for downloading. (2) Those wishing to apply for nomination by SGAI for an ECCAI Fellowship must be paid-up members of SGAI of at least three years' standing. Each must be proposed and seconded by currently paid-up members of SGAI. (3) Applicants must provide SGAI with the following documentation by the deadline. (a) A nomination form signed by the applicant, one proposer and one seconder. This will include a statement that the applicant is willing to be considered. (b) A Curriculum Vitae, as required by ECCAI. (c) Three letters of reference written in English (as required by ECCAI), in sealed envelopes marked 'Reference for ECCAI Fellowship', with the referee's name signed across the seal in each case. Applicants are responsible for obtaining these references. (Referees do not have to be members of SGAI. The proposer and seconder may act as referees if the applicant wishes.) (4) Valid applications will be forwarded to ECCAI without comment to meet their published deadline. In exceptional circumstances the Chairman of SGAI, in consultation with such other committee members as he may choose, reserves the right not to forward an application he considers inappropriate. |
Nominations are now open for 2006. A nomination form is available here in Word 2000 and PDF formats.
Items (a), (b) and (c) specified in (3) above must be sent by post (not email) to the SGAI Chairman:
